Orphanage Volunteering

The orphanage program offers volunteers the opportunity to interact and care for the neediest children in our local government orphanage. This program is very dynamic and is often viewed as life-changing in both the impact you will have on the children and more importantly the impact the children will have on you. Since this is a government run orphanage, volunteers assist the employed orphanage staff with the daily routines for the children who range from 0-6 years old (both girls and boys). The children vary in all different needs, development, and abilities based on their individual backgrounds. Volunteers participate in dressing, feeding, playing, caring, and loving the orphanage children. Our volunteers are able to make a profound difference in orphan's lives by providing them with affection and love that may not otherwise receive or experience.

The activities you’ll be doing

# Help with bathing and dressing the children # Help with feeding the children – especially the babies and mentally challenged # Nursing and caring for the children # Organizing and facilitating games and plays for the children # Educating the children about personal and environmental hygiene # Help in other activities together with the orphanage staff

A day in the life of a volunteer

On working days, volunteers usually get up and have breakfast before leaving for their Volunteer Placements. Our staff will provide transportation to and from your Volunteer Placement if required. You will probably spend about four hours at your Volunteer Placement. Evenings will be filled with opportunities to learn about the local culture and customs, field trips to places of local interest, discussions with experts on local issues and others. Evening meal-times provide another exciting chance to enjoy authentic food provided by host family/our staff cooks. The food is delicious and healthy and takes full advantage of local cooking traditions.

Volunteer's Story

I have been wanting to go to India for a long time. So I decided to choose a volunteering program. It was one of the best decisions I've made! I volunteered in the orphanage for three weeks and traveled for one. I had an amazing experience! I really enjoyed working with the kids. They always greet you with the biggest smile and it is very fun to play with them. It was really hard having to leave the orphanage. It taught me a lot about life, about how lucky I am, and about how everyone can make even a small difference in the world. I would definitely do it again. For a longer period of time. I miss India so much!! - Pia Marino, Mexico
